Ocean Reef Marina Takes Shape in Perth’s Northern Corridor

If you’ve taken a drive along the northern coastline lately, you’ve probably noticed some major changes at Ocean Reef. The transformation of the Ocean Reef Marina into a world-class destination is no longer just a concept—it’s happening right before our eyes.

This is one of the most significant coastal developments we’ve seen in our part of the world, and it’s set to bring lasting benefits to local residents, businesses, and the broader Perth community.

Civil Works Power Ahead on Residential Precinct

Stage 1 of the development officially began in March 2024, and construction is now well underway on the first section of the residential precinct. Underground services such as electrical, water, and communication infrastructure are progressing across the site to support both the new homes and the commercial and recreational areas.

Roads and car parking areas are also taking shape, with pavement construction advancing steadily. Along the Destination Basin Edge Wall—what will eventually become a scenic waterfront hub—concrete works are continuing to create structural support and define the marina’s new form.

A Beach and Parklands Designed for Families

One of the most exciting aspects of this project is the new beach and family-friendly open spaces being built on the southern side of the site. Construction of the retaining wall for the beach and the terraced lawn area is going well, and hardscaping is underway on what will soon become two large public spaces.

Plans for these areas include an ocean-themed playground, a bike pump track, shaded picnic zones, and generous landscaping with thousands of new plants and trees already in the ground—set to thrive by the time summer hits. Irrigation infrastructure, including a large concrete water storage tank replenished by bore water, is also in place to keep these spaces green year-round.

New Access and Road Infrastructure Rolling Out

If you’ve travelled down Ocean Reef Road recently, you may have noticed a brand-new roundabout near the Ocean Reef Road and Hodges Drive intersection. This now provides access to the Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club and Marine Rescue Whitfords, and will eventually connect to the broader road network throughout the marina.

New street lighting is being rolled out across the site, particularly around the upgraded boat ramps and parking areas, with more smart lighting and infrastructure features expected soon.

Upgraded Facilities for Local Clubs Nearing Completion

The Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club (ORSSC) and Marine Rescue Whitfords (MRW) are cornerstones of our local coastal community—and both are receiving brand-new facilities as part of this development.

For ORSSC, works include:

  • Final painting, cladding, and external finishes
  • Carpeting and vinyl installation
  • Completion of kitchens, bars, bathrooms, and cabinetry
  • Timber feature walls and sundeck waterproofing

For MRW, current works include:

  • Concrete wall finishing and painting
  • Steel canopy frame installation
  • Electrical and communications fit-out
  • Final cabinetry and door hardware

Access roads and parking areas for these facilities are almost finished, ready to support club operations in the very near future.

What’s Coming Next?

In the months ahead, we can expect to see:

  • Final landscaping and lighting works
  • Commissioning of public open spaces
  • Further progress on the residential precinct
  • More path and road connections across the development
  • New tech-driven features around the smart boat ramps

This upgrade isn’t just about new homes—it’s about creating a vibrant, community-centric destination with better access to the coast, improved facilities for clubs and families, and new lifestyle opportunities for locals and visitors alike.

If you live nearby or you’re watching with interest like I am, it’s fair to say that Ocean Reef Marina is fast becoming a showpiece of Perth’s northern suburbs.

We’ll continue to keep an eye on how it’s all coming together—because this development is not just about bricks and mortar. It’s about building a future that reflects the lifestyle we all enjoy along WA’s coastline.
